Just 2.5 years after BSW was approached by the client, the country’s president inaugurated a new and modern maximum security correctional facility. The project constituted a rare achievement in a world where LEDCs (less economically developed countries) are struggling to operate and maintain outdated detention centers built in the 1930s or earlier.
The turnkey project was executed as part of a wider national plan to construct 3 new maximum security prisons. Each one was designed to hold up to 500 inmates – men, women, and juvenile offenders – and was divided into several independent incarceration units.
Our experts designed the facility to meet the strictest international standards for incarceration; with advanced security systems such as central and peripheral control rooms, CCTV and door management solutions, and multi-layer perimeter security comprising several types of physical and cellphone jammers.
Inspired by BSW’s progressive values and drive to improve the quality of life across the globe, our correctional department designed the facility in line with international standards and with particular attention to inmate welfare and rehabilitation. Every inmate was guaranteed adequate personal space with a predetermined number of inmates per cell. They also have access to toilet facilities and hot water, the on-premises clinic, and fully equipped educational and occupational centers.
Our client’s requirement was for the delivery of a center capable of housing 300 inmates within 8 months.
